Some of you may know that I'm a huge Batman fan as well as a TMNT fan. I loved Batman: The Animated Series (B:TAS) on Fox. On Saturday mornings on Fox, it was also renamed 'The Adv. of Batman and Robin' (Adv. B&R), then eventually moved to WB Kids and with new character designs, the show was once again renamed; 'The New Batman Adventures' (TNBA).
Well I've noticed some interesting simarlarities in both shows. One particluar thing I've noticed is while the art work and art styles differ for each show, the art and styles changed over the years and seasons. For the final seaons for both TMNT and TNBA, there were some new character designs and backgrounds. The final 3 seasons of TMNT was even referred to as the 'Red Sky' eps b/c of the red sky in the background. However TNBA also added a red sky to its background, from it's original black background in B:TAS. Not to mention, both of the shows tones changed to a darker theme.
The new character designs for both shows I sorta liked and didn't like. For TMNT, the Turtles were more angular sorta like, *what are we talking 'bout here?* B:TAS, or rather Bruce Timm style. ( Bruce Timm is the artist and main producer for B:TAS for those of you who don't know. ) The guys got wider eye holes in their masks, and you could see more green skin around their eyes; sorta cool, sorta annoying. April lost her infamous yellow jumpsuit and got a new hair-do. There was less humor, even with Bebop and Rocksteady,
and the show in general became more serious.
For TNBA, the characters all became more 'streamlined' with even less detail, to an already very-little-detailed brand of artwork. The changes to the men were bigger chests and smaller, thinner legs and feet. The women were more pixie-like or nymph-like, having smaller waistlines, shorter legs, smaller feet, and big mouths. Besides the differing hairstyles, all the women's faces looked the same. Batman himself became thinner and his face more square-like than it had been before, and without any lines on his face, making him actually appear alittle younger. There were also various costume changes to the characters, whether good or bad, and it was both trust me! And like the 'Red Sky' TMNT, TNBA also became darker with an even grimmer Batman. Also there were vehicle changes.
However, sometimes pictures help. So look at the pics on the right to see for yourself!
